Yamba State of Origin 8 x 50m Race Report from Malcolm
Most of us have a memory of where we were at the time of a significant event.
My latest is as a spectator at the Clarence River BPS Meet on 9th June watching NSW win the State of Origin 8 x 50 metre Freestyle Relay ( a handicap event ).
- Captain Carl was the final swimmer in the NSW Team and set off on the final 50 metres with a handy lead.
- Queensland's final swimmer was a gun swimmer and was catching up to Carl, getting close at the turn.
- The Queenslander had one speed: - flat out - but Carl managed to find something extra, went up a notch, and kept in front to win by a body length.
- The crowd went wild ( except for the Queenslanders who were on the losing end for the first time in a few years).
I'll not forget that win for some time to come.
Well done Captain Carl !!!

Presentation Day – 3rd February
The clouds cleared away, the rain stopped and all was well for our annual presentation day held at Lowlands Bowling Club on Sunday 3rd February.
The first couple of hours was filled in with some forgettable bowling action. The first half hour was treated as a learning curve by most and then things improved slightly with only the committed bowlers showing any promise.
The spider was won by a very competent Kay Donnan showing her skills as a bowler as well as a swimmer.
Club Champion for 2012 was jointly won by Robin and Wendy with the adjudicators unable to separate them. Runner up was Carl followed by Kay.
Recognition for BPS points gained went to Bill, Malcolm and Ann and for Aerobic points to Maureen, Emma and Mike.
Special awards to Ian Jeffery for his record breaking feats, Jon Piesnik as outstanding new talent and Paul Murray in recognition of his contribution to the club for his website design and maintenance.
Coach Adam’s awards went to Ian, Emma and Carl.
Other special awards went to Kevin Phillips (Marty Feldman award), Ian and Paul (Lance Armstrong award), Michael Hickerton (Boilers award) and to Kate Cockrem and Julie Phillips special recognition for their wonderful support to our club.
