Presentation Day – 5th February
Finally the weather cleared and the presentation day was ‘on’. After three years of the weather god looking the other way we finally were able to enjoy the bowls as part of our presentation day even though it was not looking good a couple of days out.
The effort by most of the bowlers was pretty ugly and many a bowl visited its next rink and some nearly went into the next suburb. But it was fun and everyone really enjoyed the afternoon.
The official part of the day was the presentation to our 2011 achievers. Jeanne was congratulated as our club champion, Wendy runner up and Robin came in third. Jeanne was also recognized for her aerobic achievement of scoring top points for the year.
Ian was rewarded for his wonderful swimming achievements at state and national level and Paul, Maureen and Theresa were recognized for their contributions to the club.
Numerous other members were recipients of bottles of the clubs first vintage.
The caterers received praise for the dinner and everyone went home happy.

Lake Glenbawn Classic – 26th January (Australia Day)
This Australia Day saw three Novocastrian swimmers including president Rhonda, VP Phil and new apprentice Emma as well as Novocastrian at heart, Warren Smith, undertake an epic road trip to tackle the Lake Glenbawn Classic.
The first challenge was surviving the road trip up which consisted of Phil acting as a tour guide of the best places to ‘work’ or rather socialise in the region and of course it was not long before the banter began between the boys and the girls. With a bet in place between who would win between the boys and the girls, we arrived to a beautiful, sunny, picturesque day at Lake Glenbawn. Well that is how Phil would describe it, but it was actually pouring rain and very muddy.
All four swimmers participated in the 3km classic, described as a swim for those “toughing it out”. Even though weather conditions were not ideal, the water conditions were perfect for the open water swim with no wind and the water at a cool 21°C. First to finish from the Novo’s clan was Emma with a time of 51.07, which resulted in placing second overall. Close behind was Warren and Rhonda, with times of 51.45 and 51.48 and placing 6th and 7th respectively. Phil did not want to embarrass the girls by ‘flogging’ them, so trailed in not far behind to place 11th overall with a time of 57.22. Emma placed first, Rhonda and Warren second and Phil fourth within their specific division groups.
A great day was had by all!
